Resources for Renewal: Lent

Updated: Oct 8, 2019

In anticipation of the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday, March 6, we have curated a list of resources that can help you connect with God during this season of transformation.

Lent is a season of spiritual disciplines and inward focus as we prepare for the gift of the resurrection. It is a time of re-centering, when we listen for God's invitation to deeper intimacy and seek to root out anything in our lives that may be hindering spiritual growth and wholeness.

This year Jenny's congregation, First United Methodist in Kirkland, Illinois, is utilizing Worship Design Studio's resource: Busy:  Reconnecting with an Unhurried God. The anchor image is a prayer chair, and members are encouraged to find a chair at home, which you can even decorate, for the purpose of time out with God. Whether it's centering prayer, reading a daily devotional or journaling, time out with God on a daily basis is essential for overall health of body, mind and spirit.

Digital resources for your time with God:

Lent: A Season of Returning by Ruth Haley Barton

In this weekly study, Ruth Haley Barton takes us through a series of short reflections, prayers and practices to help us honestly examine our lives in order to return to the Lord with all our hearts. This small booklet can be used by individuals, but it is also a powerful resource for small groups or families. Click here for more info.
